The first time I tasted a protein powder smoothie my nose wrinkled and I all but spit it out into a chalky mess on my countertop. Since then I’ve tinkered with many different recipes in the kitchen, striving to get it just right. I’ve finally achieved a delicious smoothie that for the most part hides the taste of the powder. As a vegetarian this smoothie helps me get the protein I need. I also add flax seed for a boost of omega 3’s and acidophilus for healthy gut flora. The result is a power-packed smoothie that is chocolatey delicious.

After seeing several practitioners about a particular health ailment I’m dealing with, one of the avenues I’m exploring is the possibility of food sensitivities. As a happy result I chanced into my aunt suggesting we make pizza with pesto instead of tomato sauce. It was so amazing I may never go back.

My daughter loves this nutritious smoothie. It packs in a green vegetable, protein, fruit, and yogurt for a filling and delicious breakfast.

Ingredients

Use organic ingredients. If you don’t have one type of fruit, simply substitute with another fruit. All ingredients are optional, experiment until you find a mix that you like! For us I have noticed that the banana adds sweetness, the vanilla and honey mask the spinach, and the peanut butter makes it taste like a shake. We sometimes use almond butter and that tastes great too.
